about

I remember getting back from a very ill advised Vegas trip with a totally new mindset. I also returned with a new name. I had gone by Catalyst for my first year of music making, but decided to change my name to something a bit more personal. With that name change, I also had a new album in mind.

This was October of 2010. The original intro planned for the project was recorded in 2011, and eventually released on the second installment of my Collateral Mixtape series. I would release 3 projects before getting back to this album.

I think a major reason for this was, I didn't feel like I was musically ready to articulate what I wanted to on a project with such a bold title. At least in my opinion. It has taken me quite awhile to open up to a high enough level and deliver something I feel displays me as a person first, and an artist second.

I had to go through my phase of worrying what others thought. Attempting to prove myself to the veterans within the IE music scene. Resenting blogs that wouldn't give my music a chance. And of course realizing who I am at this moment in time as an artist.

That brings us to the winter of 2012, and I'm planning to release The Birmingham Baron as a full length project off the strength of TRINI. The plan was to make a very ignorant/trap based product, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. The musical space I was in wouldn't allow me to write that way. I had so much I wanted to say. That's when the Baron project was scrapped, and #COCA found life again.

A few songs from the Baron sessions have made the album. I'll be releasing the tracklist in about a week. I hope you are all ready for the first project I truly feel I've made that deserves your hard earned money.

Safe Travels,
Archer
